IRAP Group is an NGO located in Ain-Aar that has for mission to safeguard the rights of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and help the poor acquire a decent living. The Group includes: the Specialized School, the medico-social center, the Sheltered Workshop, the Shop, and Cafeteria Hotel Dieu De France.
Specialized in educating the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, IRAP school was established in 1963 to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in acquiring their right to listen, speak, learn, communicate and interact in the society. As pioneers in Research and Development in the field, IRAP heavily invested in producing the first educational materials for its special case students: books, articles, workshops, educational games ect... Understanding the Sign Language and the Lips Language helped the Deaf and Hard of Hearing students’ achieve better communication results on one hand, and on the other, it opened up new doors and horizons for future advancements in this medical field.
By employing elite talents for teaching and Research and Development, IRAP helped students overcome anycommunication disorder. The NGO also prepared, published and trained the trainers for helping impair patient’s communication abilities including voice, speech, language, hearing, and/or cognition.
IRAP social impact in patients’ life and their families’ life is beyond description: IRAP not only safeguarded equal rights and opportunities for the disabled, but also increased awareness on non-discriminating behavior against Deaf and Hard of Hearing, helped special cases students to become active members in the society, and most of all avoided these members to be dependent, isolated, and depressed.
While education is just one side of improving the disabled’ life, providing shelter and work remain of greater challenge. For this end, IRAP boarding-school and the sheltered workshop has always been the family house where we all work together, strengthen the ties of friendship, share our joy and happiness and belong to a supportive environment where we can acquire job skills and vocational experience. In 1968 and forth, IRAP created 2 sheltered workshops: the kitchen and the hand-crafting.
